Read more about his success story in his interview below……

LSB: What is your name and Instagram tag if you have one?
SR: Sean Rodman and my Instagram name is @sean_rodman.

LSB: What did you do before barbering?
SR: Before I came a full time barber, I was a hairdresser so I had the fundamentals of barbering before I decided to up my barbering game.

LSB: When did you realise barbering was the profession for you?
SR: I grew a passion for hair from a young age, but it wasn’t until about a year or so ago, that I really grew a passion for barbering. I think in this game, you have to have a passion for it or it can really show in your haircuts. This is what makes you different from the other barbers and stylists out there. If you have a great passion you will have great cuts!

LSB: How did you feel about making the transition into barbering, and Why did you choose LSB to learn the trade?
SR: Like I said before, I already had the fundamentals of barbering but never had the structure and techniques I needed in the locker to execute certain styles.  This is why I chose to go to London School of Barbering because they where highly recommended by the uppercut deluxe team! So I looked into their courses and tried to get as much information about them as possible. During my research, I discovered amazing reviews so I couldn’t wait to book onto their course. I would highly recommend anyone going to LSB.

LSB: What course did you take at London School of Barbering, and what were the highlights of for you?
SR: I did the Masters in Barbering NVQ 3. I had many highlights, being surrounded by other students so you can bounce ideas off and everybody has a different way of doing things. So not only did I learn off the educators, I was also picking up tricks of the trade from students. I have to say, it was really good vibes and was buzzed everyday and I couldn’t wait to get back in. Even though we were there to learn, we had fun at the same time! My main highlight was definitely watching my skills improve day by day, cut by cut. On this particular course ,you already need the fundamentals so you pick things up really quick.

LSB: Tell us about your journey since you have finished with LSB?
SR: So it’s been about year since I did the course.  Previously to that I opened my own shop and been grafting ever since, I’ve been lucky enough to find two great members of staff to work with me (Luke Brimble & Charlie Lacey – these guys definitely deserve a shout out they work super hard). Everyday we have top banter and dish out top quality cuts, what more could you ask for! It’s been going so well, we’re looking at shop number two later on this year. My main highlight has to be when we got asked to cut the bands hair ‘Bullet For My Valentine‘. If you don’t know these guys, they’re probably the biggest metal band to come out of the UK!

LSB: What has been your proudest moment so far as a barber?
SR: My proudest moment so far has to be trading in my first shop for just over a year now. The first year of business is the make or break year!? I have to say we have completely smashed it and I’m looking forward to many more to come! Also, opening up a shop in the town I grew up in feels like I’m giving something back to the town I love which is pretty sweet.

LSB: If you could have anyone in your barber’s chair, who would it be and why?
SR: First person that came to mind was David Attenborough. There aren’t many places he hasn’t been, being fond of traveling myself he would make a epic conversation, not much hair but again great conversation!

LSB: Have you had anyone in your barber’s chair already that has had an interesting story to tell you?
SR: Can’t pin point a specific customer as all the customers have a different story to tell. I have a lot of time for every single one of them. But I have to say, it’s quite refreshing having someone from the older generation come through because they always have some awesome stories and put life in perspective for you.

LSB: Do you take inspiration from anything when cutting hair, such as music, fashion, film or art?
SR: I have to say the biggest inspiration I get has to be from some of the biggest names in the barbering industry I follow on Instagram, such as “joe cartmel” “toastie styles” “rhys green”, these are just a few of the people I follow that give me inspiration!

LSB: What would you say to anyone considering a career in barbering and studying at LSB?
SR: To anyone wanting to get into barbering, I would recommend going straight to LSB and doing a course instead of doing an apprenticeship! This will save you years of time and you will come out of LSB shop ready. You’ll have all the fundamentals there and ready to start working which will make it quicker to pick things up and find a job easier! My advice would be to work hard and take in as much information as possible while having that passion for it and you will succeed!

LSB: Anything further to add?
SR: If anyone is in the Bristol area and needs a trim be sure to check us out, you can find us on Instagram: @kingsbarbers9039 Facebook: @kingbarbers17 and can visit our website www.kings-barbers.co.uk
