Start a New Career After Military Service

Start a New Career
After Military Service

London School of Barbering provides a clear and practical route into a new career for serving personnel, service leavers and veterans. If you are leaving the Armed Forces and looking for a stable, structured and realistic career path, barbering offers a strong opportunity. Our training is designed to take individuals from little or no experience through to a level where they can move directly into employment or self-employment within the barbering industry.

We understand that transition from military life requires clarity and direction. Our focus is on delivering training that leads to real outcomes, supported by industry connections, recognised qualifications and a structured learning environment.

Why Barbering Is a
Strong Career Choice

Barbering is a practical trade that aligns well with the skills developed during military service. It requires discipline, consistency, attention to detail and professionalism, all of which are core strengths for service personnel. The work is hands-on and structured, with clear processes and visible results, making it a natural transition for those used to operational environments.

Unlike many career paths, barbering offers a relatively fast route into earning. With the right training, it is possible to begin working within a short period of time. It also provides long-term flexibility, with options to work in a barbershop, operate independently, or build a business. This makes it both a short-term solution and a long-term career.

Military Funding for
Barber Training (ELCAS, SLC & More)

There are several funding options available to support your training, depending on your service status.

ELCAS Funding

London School of Barbering is an ELCAS approved training provider, allowing eligible service leavers and veterans to use Enhanced Learning Credits towards Level 3 barbering courses. This is one of the most widely used funding routes for military career transition and can significantly reduce the cost of training.

Standard Learning Credits (SLC)

For those still serving, Standard Learning Credits (SLC) may also be available. This provides a contribution towards course costs and can be used prior to discharge. In addition, some learners may be eligible for further support through resettlement funding, military charities and benevolent funds.

We regularly work with individuals using these funding routes and can provide the information needed to support your application.

Training Built Around
Real Work

Our courses are designed to prepare you for employment from day one. Training takes place in real barbershop environments where you will work with real clients, developing both technical ability and confidence. This approach ensures that you are not only qualified, but also ready to work in a professional setting.

The structured nature of our training suits individuals coming from military backgrounds, with clear progression, hands-on learning and a focus on performance. The aim is simple, to get you to a standard where you can move into work as quickly and confidently as possible.

From Training to
Employment

Barbering is a trade with consistent demand across the UK, and trained barbers are regularly required by employers. London School of Barbering supports learners beyond training by maintaining strong links with the industry and sharing job opportunities with graduates.

Many barbershops actively recruit from LSB due to the practical experience our learners gain during training. For those who prefer a different route, barbering also provides a clear pathway into self-employment, offering flexibility and control over working hours and income.

Working with
Military Organisations and Partners

London School of Barbering is actively working with military support organisations, charities and resettlement providers to create clear and reliable pathways into employment. Our ELCAS approval, alongside our engagement with organisations supporting the Armed Forces community, demonstrates our commitment to delivering structured and professional training.

We are currently building and developing partnerships with organisations such as the Royal Marines Charity, as well as engaging with wider military support networks and employment organisations. These relationships help ensure that service leavers are guided towards training providers who can deliver real outcomes and long-term career opportunities.

We welcome further collaboration with organisations supporting military personnel and veterans, particularly where there is a focus on employment, skills development and long-term stability.
