Social Media Marketing for Barbers: How to Attract More Clients

In today’s digital world, social media is a game-changer for barbers. A strong online presence can turn a local barber into a widely recognised professional, bringing in new clients and solidifying a loyal customer base. At The London School of Barbering (LSB), we teach our students that mastering the craft is only half the battle—the other half is knowing how to market yourself effectively. Social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook offer barbers an incredible opportunity to showcase their work, engage with potential clients, and grow their business to a level they never knew existed.

Now, let’s break down the essentials of social media marketing for barbers, helping you attract more clients and establish yourself as a sought-after professional in the UK barbering industry.

Choosing the Right Social Media Platforms

Not all social media platforms are created equal, and barbers need to focus on the ones that offer the best opportunities for visual content, engagement, and client interaction. Meaning, choose the right platform for a barber.

Instagram: Without a doubt, is the go-to platform for barbers. High-quality images, reels, and IG Stories will allow you to showcase your work to the world, engage with potential clients, and build a solid brand.
TikTok: With the rise of short-form video content, TikTok is perfect for barbers to share quick haircut transformations, styling tutorials, and behind-the-scenes moments.
Facebook: Ideal for local engagement, Facebook allows barbers to create business pages, post updates, and use booking features to secure appointments.
Google My Business: Not a social media platform per se, but crucial for local searches. Keeping your profile updated with client reviews and photos helps attract new clients searching for barbers in your area. Did you know that some of the most barber related searches are ‘barbers near me’, ‘best barbers in (city)’, ‘mobile barber services’ etc.

Creating Engaging Content

Social media success depends on consistently creating content that resonates with your audience. Here are some key types of posts that work well for barbers:

  • Before-and-after transformations: Clients love to see the results of a good haircut. Posting before-and-after pictures or videos helps showcase your skills and attract new clients who could be seeking a similar style.
  • Tutorials and styling tips: Offering advice on styling, haircare, and maintenance can position you as an expert barber and keep your audience engaged.
  • Client testimonials and reviews: Social proof is powerful. Sharing real, positive client experiences builds trust and encourages new bookings.
  • Behind-the-scenes content: Showcasing your personality, barbershop environment, and daily routine helps create a more personal connection with your followers. Giving them an insight behind who you are and what your brand is about.
  • Trending and seasonal styles: Keeping up with popular haircuts (e.g., skin fades, mullets, and scissor haircuts (e.g., summer buzz cuts, winter beards) keeps your content relevant and engaging.

Posting Consistently and at the Right Time

  1. One of the biggest mistakes barbers make is inconsistent posting. If you don’t post regularly, your audience will forget about you & so will social media. Here’s how to stay on top of your content game:
  2.  Post frequency: Aim for at least 3-4 feed posts per week and daily Instagram Stories.
  3. Best posting times: Research suggests the best times to post for engagement in the UK are between 6-9 PM on weekdays and 10 AM-12 PM on weekends.
  4. Use scheduling tools: Platforms like Meta Business Suite and Later can help you plan and schedule posts in advance, keeping your social media presence active.

Growing Your Audience

Having great content is only half the battle—you also need to ensure that people see it. There are numerous tactics for growing your social media audience. One of the most popular and simple tactics is using relevant hashtags (some examples being #LSB #UKBarber, #LondonBarber, and #MensGrooming) to increase discoverability.

Tagging and location pins are great to reaching new audiences and when you tag your  clients, using location tags, and geotag your shop, it can help attract local clients searching for a barber. Arguably one of the most important tactics is collaborations. Work with influencers, local businesses, and fellow barbers to expand your reach. Hosting giveaways or shoutouts can also boost engagement.

An important final step is engaging with your audience. Responding to comments, DMs, and engaging with other barbers’ content helps increase your visibility and build relationships.

Turning Followers into Clients

Growing your social media presence is great, but the real goal is to turn online followers into paying clients to build your business. Here’s how:

  • Use booking features: Platforms like Instagram and Facebook allow you to integrate booking links directly in your bio or posts.
  • Offer promotions: Exclusive social media discounts, sales, and referral bonuses to existing’s clients can encourage new bookings.
  • Encourage direct messages: Use Instagram Stories to prompt followers to DM you for availability and consultations.
  • Leverage paid ads: Running targeted Facebook and Instagram ads can help you reach potential clients in your area who are seeking a new barber.

Avoiding Common Mistakes

Many barbers struggle with social media because they fall into common pitfalls. Here’s what to avoid:

  1. Inconsistent posting: Clients need to see your work regularly to consider booking with you. Inconsistent posting can also lead to ‘social media’ forgetting about you as when you stop posting, online algorithms will prioritize more frequently active users over you.
  2. Low-quality images and videos: Blurry or poorly lit content can make even a great haircut look unappealing. Leaving clients with a poor viewing experience and feeling less engaged.
  3. Ignoring engagement: If you don’t reply to comments or DMs, potential clients may go elsewhere. You must be reactive and alert – every DM is an opportunity.
Lack of a local strategy: Not using location tags or engaging with the local community can make it harder for people to find you.

So, what have we learnt?

Social media is one of the most powerful tools for barbers looking to grow their client base, build a personal brand, and stand out in a competitive market. By choosing the right platforms, posting engaging content consistently, growing your audience, and converting followers into clients, you can boost your barbering career.
