LSB: What is your name and Instagram tag if you have one?
RR: Rob Robinson & @robrobinson204 & @northernbarbercompany.

LSB: What did you do before barbering?
RR: I am a fully qualified teacher and have worked with young people with learning difficulties.

LSB:  When did you realise barbering was the profession for you?
RR: I have always wanted to get into barbering and have always been passionate about hair. To be honest, I have been interested in barbering, men’s hair and fashion for as long now as I can remember. As the barbering industry has grown, so has my desire to be part of it.

LSB: How did you feel about making the transition into barbering, and Why did you choose LSB to learn the trade?
RR: The transition into barbering was made easier by the excellent tuition and environment at LSB. Having previously completed my level 2 in Barbering, I just felt that I needed more industry specific training with a focus around current trends and styles which LSB offered.

LSB: What course did you take at London School of Barbering, and what were the highlights for you?
RR: I took the Clipper and Fading Fundamentals course. After looking into many courses, I found that this course at LSB was most suited to my needs. The highlights of the course, for me I learnt more than I could have imagined. All I can say is the passion and enthusiasm in that place, not just from the tutors, but the whole environment is so addictive! Honestly you finish the day and you’re absolutely buzzing. The tutoring from Jordan, in his own words was “sick”. I went from thinking I was a decent barber to actually being one. I just wish I could have stayed longer!

LSB: Tell us about your journey since you have finished with LSB?
RR: Since finishing the course, it was always my dream to open up my own shop. So in partnership with my good friend and amazing barber Daniel Kean, we both moved up North and opened up The Northern Barber Company in our home town of Preston. I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to go back to my home town and open up a barber shop, doing what I love.

LSB: What has been your proudest moment so far as a barber?
RR: My proudest moment so far has being opening up The Northern Barber Company. Myself and Daniel are both proud of the shop and what we’re doing.

LSB: If you could have anyone in your barber’s chair, who would it be and why?
RR: I would love for David Beckham to pop in to the shop for a quick sharpen up…we can dream. As he was on loan in the 94/95 season at Preston, maybe David will be in town again someday! I think David Beckham’s style is such a perfect blend of the gentleman look along with a cool, trendy edge.

LSB: Have you had anyone in your barber’s chair already that has had an interesting story to tell you?
RR: I cut a client’s hair last week who was flying to New York on September the 11th 2001 as the terrible attacks took place. That really stuck in my mind!

LSB: Do you take inspiration from anything when cutting hair, such as music, fashion, film or art?
RR: I think Instagram has taken the Barbering industry to the next level and is an amazing resource for inspiration, looking at current and future trends and where things are going. It is definitely my main go to for inspiration!

LSB: What would you say to anyone considering a career in barbering and studying at LSB?
RR: One thing I will say is that I can’t thank London School of Barbering enough. For anyone considering a career in barbering, or a change in career, this is THE place to go.

LSB: Anything further to add?
RR: We’ve been lucky to have some great characters in the shop already. Our ethos is based on the customer experience – we chat to customers on their lifestyle and taste so we can tailor their haircut to meet their needs and individual style.
